Member Profile

One of our newest members here at Mount Shasta Resort is young Brian Theriot. His nickname is “Bucko” but we are not sure why. Perhaps he was once a rodeo star or a pirate and decided to become a golfer. Nevertheless, Bucko is a nice guy and carries a strong 16 handicap. He plays in our weekend skins game and usually does OK. They say that only 20% of all golfers have a handicap lower than 18. So, that puts Bucko in the top 20%. We heard that he can drive the ball a long way, a long way left and a long way right. He also has a great short game. Someone told us that he has all the shots, but they don’t always match the situation. Bucko does have a good attitude. You seldom see him angry and you never hear him say blank.

The View Point

"If I could have breakfast with that view every day, I would!  The food is as good as the view - EXCELLENT!  Thanks!"  A. Rouse, Director of San Ramon, CA

December, 2014 Newsletter

Our annual Turkey Shoot Scramble was held on Sunday , November 23rd. Each player received a nice frozen turkey to take home for Thanksgiving. We presented our members with over 250 pounds of delicious turkeys. The team of Danny Hansen, Gary Woods, and John Gut managed a 13 under par 57 to win low gross honors. Low net went to the team of Kale Riccomini, Kaden Riccomini, and Brian Johnson. They came in with a smooth net 50.
We also had a few golfers get a “Hole-in-One” in November. Steve Long, from Cottonwood, knocked one in on hole #5 back on November 3rd.
Scott Waite got his “ace” November 8th on hole #17.
Also, Phil Lewis made his ace on hole #17 back on November the 15th.

An Update From The G.M.

Major renovations were made to our 20 year old kitchen last month.  Brand new equipment, including an ice machine, swamp cooler and entire cold line, were all installed on November 10th, 11th, and 12th.  It was quite a scene with the metal removal crew, electrician, plumber, HVAC and refrigeration crew, hood cleaners, equipment installation crew, and our own staff all working around each other for three days, but we got her done.
Trees were removed near tees #2 and #16, with plans for the removal of many more large trees during the winter months ahead.  The chipping green is under repair and expected to be fully grown in by the end of spring.  To avoid cutting sod from the practice areas in the future, a new sod farm had created in the maintenance yard.  We also replaced another maintenance truck and added a lift to take the strain off of our employees’ backs.  The maintenance staff couldn’t be happier.

Winter Rules

Most golf courses provide local rules that permit golf balls to be lifted, cleaned, and replaced in a preferred lie, or more favorable lie, without penalty during periods when adverse weather conditions make proper maintenance of fairways and rough more difficult. Most golfers generally adhere to winter rules from the 1st of November until Halloween.

Driving Range
A place where golfers go to get all the good shots out of their systems.
According to the rules of golf, equipment is “anything that can be thrown, broken, kicked, twisted, torn, crushed, shredded, mangled, propelled, driven or directed by means of transfer of momentum, into Manzanita brush, trees or berry bushes, or over the edge of any canyon, or below the surface of any body of water.
A man-made obstacle on the course, either a bunker or water hazard. It is against the rules for a player to ground his club in a hazard. The player must not allow his club to touch the sand or water before making his  his head from side tostroke. The player may, however, bury his head in his own hands, strike himself in the forehead, shake side, and if it does not delay play, he may repeatedly tap his head in frustration against a tree.
